Steven Tyler is awesome
This summer we had the pleasure of meeting Aerosmith front man, Steven Tyler. We told him that we had something that we wanted to show him, to which he rolled his eyes. However, when we pulled out a TORR X-GEN pen, and played our TORR Symphony music for him, he became animated. In fact, he began to jam with the X-GEN – popping it, clicking it, and singing to it. It was freakin’ awesome.
Steven loved the pen, and he seemed to love our entrepreneurial aspirations. It turns out that his favorite ink is Fisher Space Ink, which X-GEN comes with, so he loved the pen even more (he likes to write music upside down while in his tour bus, and since Fisher Space Ink is pressured, you can write upside down, under water, etc).
Steven told us that he wanted a pen. We gave him the X-GEN in our hands – making him the first person to receive a gift from TORR.
As we were getting ready to leave, I asked Steven if I could take a picture with him. He put the pen in his mouth, threw his arm around me, and voila…the picture. He gave Diana a big hug and kiss.
Steven Tyler is really an amazing person. Not only is he a hardcore rockstar, but he is a gentleman, he loves his fans, he volunteers for children, he even does his own food shopping, and apparently, he is known for serving pizza at late-night pizza joints (New York Times pizza article). Heck, just two weeks ago, Steven Tyler surprised a bunch of children who have cancer by crashing their event and singing “Drift Away” with them (YouTube Video). Steven Tyler is amazing.
After meeting him, we began listening to his CDs. My 5-yr old daughter now knows all of the words to our favorite Aerosmith songs – “Angel”, “I don’t want to miss a thing”, and “Amazing”. In fact, my daughter and I have spent many mornings driving to kindergarten singing “I don’t want to miss a thing” together in the car.
We are thankful that we met him, and that he was so nice to us. It is also very encouraging to know that there are people out there like Steven Tyler – rockstars with so much fame – that are genuinely good people.
