Do as Fezziwig did

This weekend, we went to a little holiday party at our dentist’s office.  Yes, we at TORR went to a party at the place where people get root canals, braces, and cleanings!  Well, the party was awesome.  There was a chocolate fountain, cakes, cookies, dips, fruit, punch, cider, plenty of booze, and of course a few TORR pens laying around.  There must have been 40-50 people all crammed into the dentist’s office, laughing, talking, eating, and drinking.  And then, out comes the dentist, dressed up like an elf.  I believe somewhere deep down, Dr. Will dreams he was “Hermey” the elf that wanted to be a dentist (see picture).  Who would have guessed that a party at your dentist’s office could be so much fun?  Well, Dr. Will and his amazing team did.

Everyone that I spoke to that night (which was probably 70% of the crowd) had an amazing time, and if they were not ambassadors of Dr. Will before that party, they certainly are now.

I think this dialogue between the Ghost of Christmas Past and Ebenezer Scrooge (after watching the party at Fezziwig’s with a younger and kinder Scrooge) sums up Dr. Will’s holiday party spirit.

Ghost of Christmas Past:

He [Fezziwig] has spent but a few pounds of your mortal money: three or four perhaps. Is that so much that he deserves this praise?

To this, Scrooge replied so eloquently:

It isn’t that, Spirit. He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil. Say that his power lies in words and looks; in things so slight and insignificant that it is impossible to add and count them up: what then? The happiness he gives, is quite as great as if it cost a fortune.

Four British Pounds in 1840 (A Christmas Carol was written in 1843) is equal to about $300 today (the cost of a small party with alcohol).  For this relatively small sum of money, one can bestow so much happiness to those around you.

Thank you, Dr. Will, for selflessly throwing such a fun holiday party for your community.
